Q: We’ve only been together three months, but my boyfriend now showers less frequently, doesn’t wash his clothes as often and has stopped shaving. I’m embarrassed of him!

On top of that, he now finds it acceptable to scratch himself in front of me like I was one of the guys. But I like him and he’s good in the sack. Help!

 — D. in Terrell Hills

A: It’s easy to learn to live with quirks like left-open toilet seats, one gulp of OJ in the container in the fridge or an empty TP roll on the TP holder while a freshly started roll sits on the tank. It’s quite another to have to hold your breath during sex, even if the sex is pretty good.

The thing is, whatever your partner does reflects on you. Would you feel comfortable taking him to your company party? To a nice restaurant? To meet your parents?

If the answer is yes, then you’re set. You love him that much, stink and all. If the answer is yes but only if he showers, then it’s time for a talk.

If the answer is no, maybe it’s time to find a guy who knows where the soap aisle is at H-E-B. If it’s no but you don’t want to give up the hot sex, then you’ll just have to keep holding your breath.
