Eat seafood — live longer. Eat oysters — love longer. It's Dry Dock Oyster Bar's motto, and it speaks for itself.
WHAT: Dry Dock Osyter Bar
WHERE: 8522 Fredericksburg Road; (210) 692-3959; www.drydocktexas.com
HOURS: Monday-Saturday 11 a.m.-10 p.m.; Sundays noon-9 p.m.; lunch specials, 11 a.m.-2 p.m.; happy hour 3 p.m.- 7 p.m. daily.
TASTE SENSATION: There's a lotta shuckin' going on — Dry Dock is all about oysters, and fried or raw, they're savory and perfect with a little lemon juice and cocktail sauce. The catfish and other fried seafood are well-seasoned, and the crawfish is just spicy enough. The eatery serves pretty much anything seafood, from lobster to crab to shrimp gumbo — and it's fresh! The daily specials are cheaper but don't skimp on a variety of options, and Mondays features a dozen oysters on the half shell for only $7.95 from 3 p.m. to 10 p.m., while Tuesdays boast all-you-can-eat shrimp for $16.95 from 3 to 10 p.m.
TUMS-WORTHY: Dry Dock's catfish isn't as moist as it is at some other places, and it can taste a bit too dry. Also, the restaurant is definitely small and can get pretty crowded on some days (though there is a patio area) — but the management likely isn't complaining.
THE 210 TAKE: Dry Dock Oyster Bar looks and feels as though you just pulled up to a waterfront restaurant that serves fresh seafood from a nearby water hole. It's a laid-back, casual spot to do some good grubbing for a relatively cheap price and nice-sized portions.
