WHO: Elijah Zane Echeveste, 28 MEDIUM: Guitar picks, oil paints BEST KNOWN FOR: Graphic design logos and playing the blues at Sam’s Burger Joint. CURRENTLY: Echeveste has fostered his love for music into visual art and fashion. Most recently, Echeveste made a tight, but wearable minidress out of red, blue, yellow green, white and black guitar picks that give the dress a snakeskin-like texture. Echeveste sewed the dress as a sheet, and then a friend helped him with the final touches. The Rock N Roll Dress, which is made of 2,449 picks and fits a woman sized zero to four, just seemed like a logical fit combining Echeveste’s interests — the aesthetics of the woman, music and fashion. Echeveste’s paintings also capture his passion for music. His oil paintings are a series of abstract-form guitars. Echeveste uses simple, biomorphic forms and bright colors on the canvases to create the instrument of his choice. Plans for another dress, which Echeveste hopes can be auctioned off in October for National Breast Cancer Awareness Month, are in the works.
