If you enjoy pints and pictures, you’re about to be in double trouble. The co-owners of Alamo Drafthouse Cinema in San Antonio are expanding their enterprise. Drafthouse número dos should be open by holiday season 2009, said Brandon Arceneaux, co-owner of the Alamo Drafthouse at 1255 SW Loop 410. The sole nine-screen Drafthouse in San Antonio will have its fourth birthday next month. Plans for the new Drafthouse in San Antonio call for a six-screen theater with stadium seating. The theater will be located in the Park North development off NW Loop 410 at the former Central Park Mall site. Arceneaux and co-owner Chris Hoegemeyer are also busy with the construction of a Drafthouse theater in Edinburg. Arceneaux expects that project to be open by the holiday season. The Austin-based movie theater chain is expanding nationally as well, with plans to open 50 locations within the next five years, according to a news release. Arceneaux said San Antonio might be getting a third Drafthouse by 2010. In San Antonio, the dinner-and-a-movie concept can also be found at Santikos Theatres: Palladium IMAX, Silverado, The Rialto and Bijou @ Crossroads. But Arceneaux thinks the Drafthouse has a little something extra to offer movie lovers. “We are extremely focused on customer service and the experience as a whole. We also feel like our specialty programming that we do have in San Antonio sets us apart from the others.” For instance, the San Antonio location will screen the Austin-made, “Z: A Zombie Musical,” on July 29. The theater also shows “The Rocky Horror Picture Show” with a live cast on the last Thursday of every month among other activities. Other special events play to the audience’s taste buds through specialty menus. Jennifer Lloyd | 210SA |
