What do Danity Kane and Chris Young have in common? Other than the fact they are both coming to San Antonio this week, they got their starts on reality TV. We started thinking about who else has made it from relative obscurity to reality TV to real stardom. Some former reality TV stars turned out to be the real deal; others turned out to be a real pain. Here’s a list of the ones we love and the ones we love to hate. THE FAMOUS Kelly Clarkson Our nation’s TV-addicted and textually active citizens made no mistake when choosing Clarkson to be the first winner of “American Idol.” Her songs have been at the top of the charts, and she’s sold more records than any other “Idol” contestant. As much as we love her, though, we cannot forgive her for starring in what is arguably the worst movie of this century, “From Justin to Kelly.” Jennifer Hudson After finishing seventh on “American Idol,” Hudson went on to earn numerous awards, including an Oscar for her performance in “Dreamgirls.” From idol to actress, Hudson is telling America that she has what it takes to be a star. Christian Siriano He made it work on the fourth season “Project Runway.” Sure, he was annoying, whiney, and a little ..... well, little, but oh, my God, he was so fierce! He could turn 50 yards of fabric or thousands of candy wrappers into couture clothing in no time, and the judges loved him for it. Blake Mycoskie Former “Amazing Race” participant and founder of Toms Shoes is trying to change society’s “rat race” mentality, one pair of shoes at a time. For every pair of Toms Shoes bought, a child in need also receives a pair. Who would have thought fame could be used for good? THE INFAMOUS William Hung Underdog, Asian stereotype personified, nationwide practical joke gone too far ..... whatever you call him, this WTF reality star sold more records than the majority of “American Idol” finalists without even getting the judges’ approval. Richard Hatch America saw him win $1 million on the first season of “Survivor,” and then we saw him get incarcerated for tax evasion. Here’s a tip: If the entire nation saw you win a massive amount of money, chances are the IRS did, too. Omarosa Manigault- Stallworth If the Trump empire was the Land of Oz, Omarosa would be the Wicked Witch of the West. She is one of the most well-known and hated reality TV contestants of all time. Perhaps she justifies her bad attitude with the notion that nice guys finish last. Of course, after she had run-ins with almost everyone on “The Apprentice,” she never won, either. Tila Nguyen Better known as Tila Tequila, this self-proclaimed bisexual candy cutie was given her own MTV reality show that recently completed a second season. Although she didn’t officially become famous on reality TV, she’s still worthy of our list because “A Shot at Love with Tila Tequila” is essentially the epitome of trash TV. We found most of the episodes of the show were so disturbing, they could only be watched in five-minute “shots.” Tiffany Pollard She was dubbed “New York” and gained her stardom on “The Flavor of Love” starring the seemingly ever cracked-out Flavor Flav. Two VH1 reality shows and a few cameo appearances later, she’s still the queen of drama and drag. Our problem with Pollard is her cleavage seems more real than her quest for love ..... if that’s possible. Samantha Hensley | 210SA
