Trainwreck makes a mix of country music and alternative rock work; they’re booked through September.
THEY ARE: Trainwreck

MEMBERS: Bryan Boyce, lead vocals and rhythm guitar; Kendall Merryman, lead guitar; Kyle Reed, backup vocals and bass guitar; Robby Fernandez, backup vocals and drums.

THE SOUND: It’s the blend of country music and alternative rock that has Trainwreck bordering genres, comfortable with its youthful Southern-rock sound.

They have a smooth, almost nostalgic catchiness that’s pleasing enough to drink to, which makes them prominent in bars and venues around San Antonio.

“Our influences vary from Jim Croce to ZZ Top, to Led Zeppelin; Pearl Jam to Lynyrd Skynyrd,” Reed said. “I guess a little bit of all of our influence comes out every once in awhile.”

THE BACKGROUND: Although they went to different high schools — Boyce went to Madison, the others went to MacArthur — the four young musicians united in June 2007.

Since then, they’ve sold more than 500 live demos and prerelease CDs from here to Oklahoma and are booked as far in advance as September. Their first song to hit the radio on 92.5 FM The Outlaw was “Cocaine Blues,” along with the recent upbeat track, “Another Round.”

Their first EP, Ramble Creek Sessions, is set to be released sometime around August, Reed said. But for them, the experience is all about touring and playing live.

“I guess we’re averaging like 200 people a show now,” he said. “We’re loving it. Especially when we travel and play because we get to see new things, and new people get to hear us. We give it our all at every show.”
