The cosmopolitan is the trademark drink for the women of “Sex and the City.” Different accounts agree the drink came into being in its first versions in the 1970s, making its way West from the Northeast through the ’80s and ’90s. The show sent its popularity through the roof.

What you’ll need:

1 ounce vodka
61/2 ounce Cointreau
1 tablespoon lime juice
Splash of cranberry juice
1 cup ice cubes
Cocktail shaker
Chilled martini glass
A steady hand

Directions:

Combine all ingredients in the cocktail shaker. Shake gently and with that steady hand, pour carefully and strain into a martini glass. Fill it right up to the rim. For extra flair, float a curl of lime peel in the center of your drink.
