THE BAND: Nancy Silva Project

THE MEMBERS: Nancy Silva (vocals, lead guitar); Jesse Avila (drums); Rick Flores (bass guitar)

THE SOUND: Pop rock with a heavy edge and raw-sounding guitar.

Nancy Silva Project is a three-piece band with a female as both the lead vocalist and guitarist. Silva said her shy but charismatic personality combined with melodic vocals, heavy guitar sound and a solid rhythm section give Nancy Silva Project an original and unique sound and stage presence. The band has many different musical influences ranging from Black Sabbath to some newer music. Silva enjoys the musical stylings of everyone from Alanis Morissette to Slipknot. She also draws inspiration for the band’s songs from life experiences that everyone can relate to.

“Silence is one of my biggest inspirations. When it’s quiet, I’m able to hear my ideas in my head ..... both music and melody,” Silva said. “Inspirations also come from emotions and life in general; a lot of times it’s just spontaneous.”

THE BACKGROUND: Silva, Avila and Flores knew each other from their time spent playing in another band, and they decided to create the Nancy Silva Project. However, Silva said she showed passion for music and performing much earlier in her life.

“I was 9 when my brother taught me how to play guitar,” Silva said. “After that, I started performing by myself and playing the guitar and singing.”

In 2007, Nancy Silva Project toured the West Coast and was a featured artist at Whisky A Go-Go’s “Women Rock Show.” The band also regularly plays throughout Texas.

THE ALBUMS: The band’s five demo songs are available for download on its MySpace page. Nancy Silva Project is planning to release a full-length album in the near future.
