Check out Shaun Irey (bass), Johnny Rod (guitar), Phil Salazar (vocals), Doug Merritt (drums) of Eden Burning at Rock Bottom Tattoo Bar.

THE BAND: Eden Burning

THE MEMBERS: Phil Salazar, vocals and guitar; Johnny Rodd, lead guitar; Shaun Irey, bass guitar; Doug Merritt, drums

THE SOUND: Power party rock — think AC/DC, Mötley Crüe, Guns N’ Roses and KISS.

“People are hungry for a good time, and that’s exactly what this band is about,” said Salazar, who writes the songs. “We do the arena rock thing. We trade guitar solos and work the crowd.”

They also incorporate lasers and smoke into their shows. “I’ve always been into theatrical rock and roll. I think when you get up on stage you should give them a show,” Salazar said. “I believe in raising hell. Being kind of loud and crazy is our forte.”

The songs are about two things: partying and relationships. “Spyder Kiss,” a crowd favorite, is about a bad breakup; “If You Want Me” is about lust at first sight. The band ends every show with “The Drinking Song,” which is just what it sounds like.

THE BACKGROUND: Eden Burning (which Salazar named after a romance novel, of all things) formed in 2006. Salazar, Rodd and Merritt are veterans of the San Antonio rock scene; Irey replaced original bassist Mark Manning after moving from Sacramento last year. They’ve played around Texas and opened for Faster Pussycat and L.A. Guns, among others.

THE WEB SITE: myspace.com/edenburning (ignore that the site says the band is based in Austin — that was a trick they used to get Austin gigs more easily)

CHECK THEM OUT: On Wednesday, May 7, at Rock Bottom Tattoo Bar and Saturday, May 10, at Boozehounds.

THE 210 TAKE: If you like straightforward, feel-good rock ’n’ roll, Eden Burning can give it to you. Catch them before they hunker down to finish up their debut album, Banged Up N Dirty, which is due out in August.
