Tucked away in a nondescript, weathered shopping center off Fredericksburg Road, Turquoise Turkish & Mediterranean Grill is easy to miss. But you'll be remiss if you do — this eatery is truly a hidden treasure. WHAT: Turquoise Turkish & Mediterranean Grill WHERE: 3720 N.W. Loop 410 at Fredericksburg Road; (210) 736-2887 HOURS: 11 a.m.-2:30 p.m. (lunch) and 5 p.m.-9 p.m. (dinner) Tuesday-Thursday; 11 a.m.-2:30 p.m. (lunch) and 5 p.m.-10 p.m. (dinner) Friday; 11 a.m.-10 p.m. Saturday; and 11 a.m.-9 p.m. Sunday. TASTE SENSATION: Turquoise Grill offers a lunch and dinner menu, with the lunch menu featuring tasty sandwiches and wraps and the dinner menu heavy on the chicken, lamb and beef kebabs with rice and grilled vegetables, pasta and eggplant dishes. The specialty is the popular doner kebab. Appetizers tease with items such as hummus and babaganoush (a dip made from eggplant and tahini). And if you're feeling adventurous, try the arnavut cigeri, or fried liver. TUMS-WORTHY: The dishes were savory and well-seasoned. The lamb and beef were tender and perfectly complemented by the grilled vegetables. Moreover, the friendly and accommodating wait staff accentuated the yummy entrees. It was an overall satisfying experience. THE 210 TAKE: How do you say “a thrilling trip for the tastebuds” in Turkish? Well, you'll have to settle for “superbly delicious” in English. Turquoise Turkish & Mediterranean Grill is a refreshing change from the traditional Tex-Mex, Latino and American cuisine that has a sure foothold in the city. There are even some pickings for the pickier eater with less-exotic tastes. It's a great place to take a date and the atmosphere is authentically Turkish, with a refined Anatolian décor that makes Turquoise Grill a pure Turkish delight. Jaundrea Clay | 210SA contributor |
