In these days of hurry-up-I-want-it-now, sometimes it's nice to sit down and relax with a good calorie fest. Babe's Old Fashioned Food delivers plenty of relief from the busy modern world. This restaurant offers a diverse menu; anyone should be able to find something on the menu to satisfy his or her tastes. From burgers to homemade pizza, salads to buffalo wings, imported beer to milkshakes, Babe's has it all. WHERE: 4535 Fredericksburg Road, (210) 732-6666; second location at 12415 Bandera Road, (210) 695-5666 HOURS: 11 am-10 pm Sunday-Thursday; 11 am-11 pm. Friday and Saturday TASTE SENSATION: The burgers are big and juicy, the pizza homemade. Even though the burgers don't come with fries or a drink, they do start at just $3.99. This leaves ordering the hand-battered onion rings or the thick-cut fries an option, but they're definitely recommended. Soda, tea, milkshakes, wine and all kinds of beer are available to wash it down. A variety of salads are available along with a vegetarian pizza. TUMS-WORTHY: No complaints here. The service was friendly and fast, the food delicious, and the atmosphere comforting. Some of the food might lie heavy in the gut, especially on a hot day, but the menu offers plenty of alternatives. THE 210 TAKE: Babe's Old Fashioned Food is a place that's easy to come back to. The food is great and the lacquered tables covered with sports memorabilia seem to be the perfect place to sit while enjoying a bucket of your favorite beer. Expect to spend $7-10 dollars per person, but expect to leave satisfied. Sam Carroll | 210SA contributor |
