Michael Bloch has always aspired to lead a “green” life, and thanks to the power of the Internet, he is now helping others do the very same. Bloch, the owner/operator of greenlivingtips.com, insists becoming “greener” is not a difficult or expensive task but one that consists of a number of small, cost-effective steps. With that in mind, here are some of Bloch's tips for becoming more environmentally friendly in our day-to-day lives.
Change from incandescent lighting to Compact Fluorescent Lamps or LED. Use public transport, car pool, ride a bicycle or walk when possible. Reduce red meat intake; the livestock industry causes environmental damage. Shop with companies that show a commitment to “green” living. Recycle whatever you can, including old cell phones. Take shorter showers. Look for natural alternatives to chemical products, including baking soda, which can be used in place of several chemical cleaning products. Don't dispose of coffee grounds; throw them in the yard or garden, as they serve as a quality fertilizer. Take reusable bags to the grocery store, thus cutting down on plastic waste. Turn off appliances when not in use, particularly anything with an adaptor or stand-by function, which use power even when not in use.
