Whittling the field from Sweet 16 to Final Four Print E-mail
Wednesday, 26 March 2008

At this point in the men's basketball tournament, you likely fall under one of the following three scenarios:

- Your bracket is shot after the first weekend, so you're simply rooting for underdogs from here on out.

- Your bracket is very much alive and well, and you're rooting for whichever teams you originally selected to win.

- Your favorite school is still alive in the tournament, and you're hoping they can run the table to a national championship.

-  Whatever your reasoning for tuning in to the Sweet 16/Elite Eight this weekend, 210SA has you covered.

EAST

SITE: Charlotte, N.C.
SWEET 16 PREDICTIONS: No. 1 North Carolina over No. 4 Washington State; No. 3 Louisville over No. 2 Tennessee
ELITE 8 PREDICTION: No. 1 North Carolina over No. 3 Louisville
MOST OUTSTANDING PLAYER: Tyler Hansbrough, North Carolina
THE 210 TAKE: The top-ranked Tar Heels won their first two tournament games by a combined 70 points. Victories won't come as easily for UNC this weekend, but they will come nonetheless.

MIDWEST

SITE: Detroit
SWEET 16 PREDICTIONS: No. 1 Kansas over No. 12 Villanova; No. 3 Wisconsin over No. 10 Davidson
ELITE 8 PREDICTION: No. 1 Kansas over No. 3 Wisconsin
MOST OUTSTANDING PLAYER: Mario Chalmers, Kansas
THE 210 TAKE: Thanks to a loaded squad and one of the weakest regions we've seen in some time, the Jayhawks finally — finally! — live up to expectations and reach the Final Four.

SOUTH

SITE: Houston
SWEET 16 PREDICTIONS: No. 1 Memphis over No. 5 Michigan State; No. 2 Texas over No. 3 Stanford
ELITE 8 PREDICTION: No. 2 Texas over No. 1 Memphis
MOST OUTSTANDING PLAYER: A.J. Abrams, Texas
THE 210 TAKE: The pro-UT crowd won't hurt the Longhorns' chances when they square off with top-ranked Memphis in the Elite Eight. Neither will the fact that the Tigers are by far the weakest No. 1 seed in the tournament.

WEST

SITE: Phoenix
SWEET 16 PREDICTIONS: No. 1 UCLA over No. 12 Western Kentucky; No. 7 West Virginia over No. 3 Xavier
ELITE 8 PREDICTION: No. 1 UCLA over No. 7 West Virginia
MOST OUTSTANDING PLAYER: Kevin Love, UCLA
THE 210 TAKE: West Virginia is a hot sleeper pick to roll into the Final Four. Just one question: Which Mountaineers player is going to stop UCLA's Love?
