Cory Driggs considers himself the epitome of an average Joe.
The San Antonio native, who now lives in Tucson, Ariz., is married with three children. Despite what he calls “the father potbelly,” he still maintains “weekend warrior” status and spends many weekends on the softball field. Though a former standout athlete in high school, Driggs never rose high enough in the ranks to consider a professional career. However, that didn't prevent him from testing his might against some former professional athletes. Driggs, 31, recently shot an episode of Spike TV's “Pros vs. Joes,” in which normal guys take on former pro athletes in various skills competitions. Driggs' episode, which features appearances by former Spurs forward Sean Elliott, former NFL quarterback Jeff George and retired MLB outfielder Brady Anderson, airs at 10 p.m. on Thursday, March 13. “When the average Joes, as they call it, when we get to lace them up again, it brings back the old glory days,” said Driggs. “It lets you prove to yourself, and prove to the athletes, that average guys are pretty tough to handle.” Of course, the highlight of the experience came when Driggs took on Elliott in a game of 21. After all, growing up a Spurs fan, Driggs still recalls Elliott's “Memorial Day Miracle” shot against Portland during the 1999 NBA playoffs. CLINT HALE | 210SA |
