With its new album, Wait Til the Ice Melts, San Antonio-based Exponential Records hopes to put Texas on the electronica map. The compilation, Exponential's 10th release, serves up music by 14 electronic, indie and downtempo producers and bands from San Antonio, Houston and Austin. βA lot of people look to California and New York and Europe to find new underground music,β said Ernest Gonzales, owner of Exponential. βIt's important because we're showing the rest of the world the type of creativity that's here.β The all-instrumental album has seven San Antonio contributors: Gonzales (formerly Theory of Everything), A.M. Architect, Mnolo, Diego Chavez (Aether216), Dance Like Robots, Wayside Dreams and Diego Bernal. Hip-hop-inspired electronic beats dominate, with some dance and indie-rock tracks thrown in. The CD release party is Saturday, March 15, at Limelight. Gonzales will perform with DJ Jester at SXSW on March 16 at Emo's Jr. in Austin. Exponential will be at 180 Grams on Wednesday, March 19.
