Be Kind Rewind

Michel Gondry's latest head-trip could be the most accessible feature he's made to date. Granted, the premise is still completely bizarre: After his body is magnetized in a freak electrical accident, none-too-bright Jerry (Jack Black) accidentally erases all the VHS tapes at the video store operated by his friend Mike (Mos Def). Not wanting to drive the store's kindly owner (Danny Glover) out of business, these enterprising pals decide to make home-movie versions of such popular titles as “Ghostbusters” and “Rush Hour 2.”  1 hr., 40 mins. Watch the trailer.

Vantage Point

Akira Kurosawa's seminal 1950 drama “Rashomon” presented viewers with three different versions of one event and asked us to ponder which version was the “correct” one. “Vantage Point” also chronicles a single event — an attempted presidential assassination — but gives viewers five points of view to choose from. Among the witnesses are an ordinary father (Forest Whitaker), a TV news veteran (Sigourney Weaver) and a Secret Service agent (Matthew Fox). As for the commander in chief himself, he's played by William Hurt. 1 hr. 30 mins. Watch the trailer.

Witless Protection

Someone out there must be going to see every film Larry the Cable Guy makes because the guy is still churning them out like clockwork. After taking on the food industry in “Health Inspector” and making Mexico safe for the Mexicans in “Delta Farce,” the comic with the most annoying catchphrase in the industry sets his satiric aim at the FBI. When a star witness is almost killed before she can testify in a high-profile trial, a sheriff from a podunk town appoints himself her guardian. 1 hr., 39 mins. Watch the trailer.
