| THE GADGET CORNER: Don't bother with the Don't Taz Me Bro figure |

It was the shout heard round the Web — University of Florida student Andrew Meyer's videotaped cry to campus police to “Don't Tase me, bro!” Since that fateful September at a Sen. John Kerry forum, Meyer's plea has popped up on its share of T-shirts. Now you can add an action figure to the catchphrase scrap heap. The Don't Taz Me Bro figure ($39.95 via herobuilders.com) looks just like Meyer only in that it too is a white male with a befuddled, pained expression on its face. And it sounds just like Meyer since it plays his infamous sound bite. Therein the similarities end. Whereas Meyer wore shorts and a blue polo during the campus incident, the Taz figure inexplicably sports camouflage pants (?) and a white T-shirt with an odd version of the Meyer entreaty. (Isn't Taz just another name for the Tasmanian Devil?) And what about accessories? Where's the replica microphone? The book Meyer clutched during the fracas? Or hey, why not a teeny toy Taser? Just goes to show this Taz figure is another weak attempt at cashing in on a priceless moment in news and Net culture. Wow, shocking. René A. Guzman | 210SA Contributor |
