Names: Esmy Villarreal, 21, and Sandra Kjos, 24

Location: North Star Mall

Love your hair! Where'd you get it done?

Villarreal: At Toni & Guy. That's where we work.

Kjos: We're hairstylists.

Cool ..... So you must change it often.

Villarreal: Oh yeah, as much as possible.

Kjos: Well, our dress code requires us to wear black, white and gray so our hair is like our accessory.

Villarreal: It's the easiest way to personalize our look.

What about when you're not at work?

Kjos: Most of my everyday wardrobe is black — I don't like to wear a lot of color. Black is easy, you don't have to put a lot of thought into it. Villarreal: I've always been a cool kid, experimenting with trends. But I love color and accessories that add a punk, modern look.

Like what?

Villarreal: Well, I knew I had to wear the usual today for work so I added this button to make my look fun; I was going to throw on more, but I didn't want it to look gaudy.

Kjos: The only color I like playing with is on my hair.

Indeed. That's a beautiful canary yellow you're sporting .....

Kjos: Thanks! I've never had yellow before so I had to try it.

And the red, well, I just love red.

My hair changes all the time; it's easy because I'm always at the salon.

How important is it for you to be on trend?

Kjos: Very. Our clients range from teenagers to 50-somethings and they all want to have the latest looks.

Villarreal: Yeah, if we look hip and fresh, and we keep up with what's happening on the scene, our customers feel more confident in our ability to make them look good.
