Some people make New Year's resolutions. Stephanie Briggs committed to a yearlong project: A new song every week. Listen to Seed posts on her blog.

SHE IS: Stephanie Briggs

HER SOUND: Folk rock with clever lyrics about relationships of all kinds. “It's a little quirky. A little different,” said singer/songwriter/guitarist Briggs, 27, who lives in New Braunfels. “I just really like words. I do a lot of poetry. I like the way words sound.”

HER ALBUM: Spark (2007)

HER BACKGROUND: Briggs was born and raised in El Campo, between Houston and Victoria, and attended Texas State University. She played the clarinet in high school and was trained in classical music. She played bass in the country/rock band Rodger Wilko from 2000 to 2005. Now she performs live with only one other musician: her husband, Matthew Briggs, on drums. They go by Stephanie Briggs and the Oso. “Everybody tells us they can't believe it's only two people playing,” she said.

HER INFLUENCES: Fiona Apple, Sarah Harmer

WHERE TO SEE HER: Every Sunday at Adobe Verde in New Braunfels; 9 p.m. Jan. 18 at Tavern in the Gruene in New Braunfels; opening for Stoney LaRue at 9 p.m. Jan. 19 at Floore's Country Store in Helotes.

THE 210 TAKE: Briggs crafts thoughtful, heartfelt songs that are catchy as well. Check out her new project, Seed, at stephaniebriggs.blogspot.com: She's writing, recording and posting a new song every week in 2008. “It's acoustic; it's not fancy or anything, but it shows a work in progress,” she said. She's also about to start recording her second album, which she said is less personal than Spark. “I always felt personal was how I wrote, but we're fixin' to record a new album, and I realize I've written more about other people and other people's stories,” she said. “That's been a whole new thing for me, and I really like that.”
