WHAT: Cowboys Dancehall WHERE: 3030 NE Loop 410 at I-35 THE DIGITS: (210) 646-9378 THE WEB: cowboysdancehall.com/sanantonio
GET YOUR DRINK ON: The dancehall is open 8 p.m.-2:30 a.m. Wednesday and Friday, 7 p.m.-2:30 a.m. Thursday, 7 p.m.-3 a.m. Saturday; usually closed Sunday-Tuesday, although special events are held some Sundays. HOTTIES QUOTIENT: Depends on the band, since Cowboys is primarily a live music and dancing venue. Kevin Fowler draws mostly young people, while the Bellamy Brothers bring in an older crowd — but no matter what night it is, Wranglers and cowboy boots are de rigueur. WALLET HANGOVER: Medium to high. While women get in free Thursday night, the cover can get as pricey as $20 for minors. Weekend concerts usually cost $10-$20. There are drink specials, but domestic longnecks and well drinks usually cost $4.25. THE 210 TAKE: There are other places in San Antonio to show off your two-stepping and West Coast swing skills, but Cowboys — with its multi-tiered stage, huge dance floor and star-studded concerts — is probably the best. Part of a chain that includes dancehalls in Arlington and Dallas, Cowboys serves up the some of the top names in mainstream country and Texas music, including Gary Allen, Dwight Yoakam and Cross Canadian Ragweed (Bob Schneider hits the stage Monday, Jan. 7.) Besides live music, the club offers dance lessons Thursday-Friday, bull riding Friday and more. And if you forget your 10-gallon hat or flashy belt buckle, don't worry — there's a gift shop to meet all your cowboy needs. Jessica Belasco | 210SA Contributor |
