WHAT: Silo
WHERE: 1133 Austin Highway; 434 N. Loop 1604 W.
THE DIGITS: Austin Highway location: (210) 824-8686; Stone Oak location: (210) 483-8989
WEB: siloelevatedcuisine.com
GET YOUR DRINK ON: Austin Highway location: 5 p.m.-midnight Sunday-Wednesday, 5 p.m.-2 a.m. Thursday-Saturday; Stone Oak location: 4:30-11 p.m. Sunday-Tuesday; 4:30 p.m.-2 a.m. Wednesday-Saturday
HOTTIES QUOTIENT: Medium. It tends to be a slightly older, professional crowd in power suits that fills the 1604 location during happy hour; on Austin Highway, the crowd is more varied and more casual.
WALLET HANGOVER: Medium to high. Most of the specialty cocktails cost about $8. Only the 1604 location has a happy hour, which runs 4:30-8 p.m. and features $1 off domestics and wells, plus two-for-one appetizers (chicken-fried oysters, blue crab spring rolls and other items costing $9-$13). Good luck getting there from downtown in time for happy hour, though. And after sitting 45 minutes in traffic, you'll need that drink.
THE 210 TAKE: The owners of the original Silo Elevated Cuisine, known for its excellent food, tried their best to recreate that magic in the booming Stone Oak area with a second location that opened in the spring. At both Silos, the bar is on the ground floor with the restaurant above. Both bars are sleek and classy, but the one on Austin Highway is much bigger and has more to offer — more TVs, local art on the walls and shuffleboard. The 1604 bar has less character and serves more as a place to wait (for upwards of an hour) for a table upstairs. Both locations offer live music Wednesday-Saturday. Go to Silo to sip mojitos with friends, celebrate a birthday or just see and be seen. Neither location is ideal for watching a Spurs game, but you might see Tim Duncan drop in for dinner.
