As an instructor — and founder — of Semeneya Ballroom, Lee Rios travels around the world demonstrating his unique style of salsa and inspiring many to get addicted to the dance.

“I'm silly, and I like to have fun,” said the 30-year-old. “When someone new comes in, I let them know that that is what Semeneya is about, dancing and enjoying yourself.”

Unless he's practicing for a show or workshop, a high-class hat and shoes he can move in are de rigueur.

HEADED FOR THE TOP

“I have (a hat) for every outfit, in different colors and styles. Probably the only time I don't wear one is if I'm wearing a tuxedo.”

CHARMED AND DANGEROUS

“This was given to me by a very good friend in India; the amulet is a sign of friendship and admiration. I never really take it off.”

BUCKLE DOWN

“Bold belt buckles are part of my everyday attire. I like fitted shirts, and I don't tuck them in so when I'm dancing you get a little flash of the buckle.”

FOOTLOOSE

“Pointed-toe shoes are very common in Europe — I've seen a lot of salsa dancers there wearing them. I just like the way they look, and I can dance in them.”
