BEST KNOWN FOR: “I'm focused on the domestic accessory,” said Goode, whose work communicates her feelings about gender roles in contemporary society. “A lot of my pieces have a lot to do with myself, things that I'm afraid of or things that I strive to be,” she said. For “The Lady Forks,” Goode bent metal forks and displayed them in shadowboxes labeled with mental disorders that can affect homemakers or housewives, including agoraphobia (fear of open or public places) and bipolar disorder. Her oil paintings often incorporate landscapes layered over images of “the iconic woman,” as Goode calls it, such as Madame X in the portrait by John Singer Sargent. “In a way, I want to be that kind of glamorous person, but at the same time, I don't think it's ever achievable,” she said.

CURRENTLY: Goode's two digital collages in the group show “Chevalerie is Ceci .....” use images of well-dressed women of society surrounded by displays of wealth; both are overlaid with logos of household cleaning products. The women appear somehow diminished by the images of Ivory Soap and Arm & Hammer baking soda imposed on them. “That's one of my larger goals, is to be a wife and mother,” Goode said. “I'm also scared to be just labeled that way.”

BACKGROUND: An Army brat, Goode was born in North Carolina and moved to San Antonio in 1986. She earned a BFA at UTSA, where she studied painting. She's returning to UTSA in the spring to obtain certification to teach art.
