Bexar inmate uses ‘get out of jail free' card A suspect charged with murder, aggravated robbery, burglary with intent to commit assault and a parole violation walked out of the Bexar County Jail after passing himself off as his cellmate. David Sauceda walked out when he recited the personal information of his cellmate, Michael Garcia. The escapee was on the loose for more than six hours before authorities realized he was missing. The 210 take: What's the world coming to when you can't take an inmate's word that he should be released. Convict wins appeal, gets longer sentence An appeal filed by a killer convicted at the age of 12 backfired after a new jury gave him a longer sentence. Edwin Debrow was the youngest murder defendant in Bexar County history when he went on trial in 1991 for the shooting of a taxi driver. Debrow would have been eligible for parole next year, but will now have to serve at least four more years of his 40-year sentence. The 210 take: Can you believe a Texas jury was harsher on a convict than on a 12-year-old boy? Yeah, me too. Turkey, Kurds — Can't we all just get along? Clashes between Turkish forces and Kurdish guerrilla fighters have been escalating in recent weeks. Kurdistan Workers' Party, or PKK, fighters have killed at least 42 people in the past month. Turkey has massed up to 100,000 troops — backed by fighter planes, helicopter gunships and tanks — on the border for a possible offensive against about 3,000 rebels using Iraq as a base from which to carry out attacks in Turkey. The 210 take: By the way, Turkey and Kurds is my favorite holiday dish. School set to close; kids say they're sad South San Antonio ISD trustees voted to close West Campus high school this fall. The vote, which came after strong community protest, marks one of the few times administrators have moved ahead when faced with the emotional issue of school closing and consolidation. “I didn't actually think they were going to go through with it,” one senior said. The 210 take: For many students at the close-knit campus, it was the most devastating news they'd heard since finding out “The Hills” wasn't real. California wildfires are flaming out Firefighters were ready to declare victory against the last handful of California wildfires. The devastating fires erupted Oct. 21, and burned for days, destroying 1,800 homes and displacing 640,000 people in some of the worst damage in California history. A lull in winds which fuelled the fires and cooling temperatures allowed firefighters to gain the upper hand. The 210 take: Helotes' own Mulchie was not happy about being upstaged by fires that lasted mere days. “That really burns me up,” he fumed.
