As a staff attorney for the Texas Department of Public Safety, Amaveli Lerma handles cases involving driver's license suspensions. That means she's either poring over DWI reports or presenting cases on behalf of the DPS in front of legal officers or a judge.

“Because I know exactly when I'll be in court, I can be creative with my wardrobe,” said the 32-year-old, who wears jeans and a nice top for “paperwork days.” But when she's got after-hours plans .....

“I'm Latina, and I love wearing pieces that look ethnic with contemporary accessories,” Lerma said. “It's very unexpected.”

THE EARRINGS

“Diminutive or dainty accessories don't work well for me; the proportion is all wrong. But substantial pieces in bold colors — like these turquoise ball earrings — are perfect.”

THE RING

“I love costume jewelry from Macy's! This was one of those things I just had to have, even though I have to wrap tape around it to keep it from falling off.”

THE CLUTCH

“Gray has always been a favorite color of mine, when I could find it. Now that it's the color of the season, I'm indulging in it.”

THE SHOES

“When it comes to my clothes, I stick to solid, neutral colors. But for accessories and shoes, I like fun prints. These are in a great print that happens to consist of all neutrals. I can wear them with everything!”
