HOT ITUNES DOWNLOADS

AMERICAN STEEL: ‘MEAN STREAK'
This California punk quartet recently reunited, signed to Fat Wreck Chords and released a new album, Destroy Their Future. That disc features this track, arguably the album's best, but without question it's catchiest. American Steel will play this tune, and many others, at Café Revolution on Oct. 31.

M.I.A.: ‘BIRD FLU'
One of the most buzzed-about musicians of the past year, M.I.A. blends catchy hip-hop beats with meaningful, socially conscious lyrics. No wonder she's never had a single on the Billboard Hot 100 chart.

FEIST: ‘1, 2, 3, 4'
And speaking of buzzworthy, this Canadian singer-songwriter — beloved in certain circles for some time now — is beginning to experience a bit of mainstream success with this, her highest-charting single that is in the iPod Nano commercial.

RIHANNA FEATURING NE-YO: ‘HATE THAT I LOVE YOU'
This is how many likely feel about Rihanna's entire catalog and its array of guilty pleasures, including this single, “Umbrella” and any other Rihanna song you've ever heard on the radio.

SERJ TANKIAN: ‘EMPTY WALLS’
Just because Tankian has temporarily gone solo doesn’t mean he’s softening up. In taking a break from the politically minded System of a Down, Tankian has released “Empty Walls” as the lead single from his upcoming solo disc, Elect the Dead. The track protests the war on terror, with certain words that aren’t exactly fit for print.

VELVET REVOLVER: ‘THE LAST FIGHT’
The latest single from this supergroup features Scott Weiland uttering, “Time feels like I’ve been back in jail/like when I was doing time in the can.” Considering he once did time for drug possession, it appears that Weiland knows from what he speaks.

FABOLOUS FEATURING JERMAINE DUPRI: ‘BABY DON’T GO’
Any song in which someone rhymes “next” with “Texas” – as Fabolous does on this single – deserves at least one listen.

THE VAULT

ARTIST: Queens of the Stone Age
ALBUM: Queens of the Stone Age
RELEASE DATE: Oct. 6, 1998
THE 210 TAKE: Queens of the Stone Age, fronted by mastermind Josh Homme, have always been critical darlings, dating back to this, their debut release. Featuring standout tracks like “Avon” and “If Only,” the Queens' debut received four-star ratings from All Music Guide and Rolling Stone. That critical success has followed them into the present day with recent releases like Lullabies to Paralyze and Era Vulgaris.
