It's been more than three years since San Antonio boxing legend Robert Quiroga was fatally stabbed outside a Northwest side home.
And though time marches on in his absence, Quiroga's family is ensuring that his memory will never be forgotten. The event will feature a motorcycle ride and nine local bands ranging in genre from rock to Tejano. “What we're trying to get out of it is remembering a great person,” said event organizer and Robert Quiroga's brother Epi Quiroga. Quiroga, San Antonio's first world boxing champion, was a member of both the San Antonio Sports Hall of Fame and the National Hispanic Sports Hall of Fame. In his post-boxing career, he had become a car salesman at Red McCombs' flagship Ford dealership, as well as a husband and father, before his death at age 34. The RoQ and Ride Community Fest, which was established in part because of Quiroga's love of motorcycles, will attempt to give something back to the community: Proceeds will benefit a number of charitable organizations and nonprofit groups. Among those are Bikers Against Child Abuse. “This is not just a chance to ..... get drunk,” Epi Quiroga said. “There's a purpose behind it.” CLINT HALE | 210SA |
