Nothing like a free music download to go with that latte. And San Antonio has a special connection to that kind gesture. Now through Nov. 7, all Starbucks locations nationwide will dole out free “Song of the Day” download cards to the, um, tune of 1.5 million songs per day, with a new song each day while supplies last. Starbucks Entertainment has picked the songs, with artists that include Paul McCartney, John Legend and KT Tunstall. It's all to hype the launch of the iTunes Wi-Fi Music Store. Starbucks has teamed up with Apple to offer free wireless access to the service via your iPhone, iPod touch or laptop. There's also a “Now Playing” feature that lets you preview, buy and download whatever's playing in the shop right then and there. Now for the special local connection. While many Starbucks won't have iTunes Wi-Fi available during the free song promotion, the Starbucks Hear Music Coffeehouse downtown on the River Walk is the only location in Texas with the iTunes Wi-Fi Music Store now active. Or you could head out to the Hear Music location in Miami Beach or the more than 600 Starbucks in New York and Seattle. In any case, there's free legal music to be had. And whether you want to download that free tune inside a Starbucks or elsewhere, daily song cards are good until the end of the year. René A. Guzman | 210SA contributor |
