It takes more than two hours for Pepper Raefin to get ready — including makeup, costume and accessories — for a dance performance. But when it comes to her everyday style, the process is a lot less complicated.
“I try to build my wardrobe with pieces that mix and match effortlessly,” said 32-year-old Raefin, who prefers items with historic or spiritual significance. “But I have to be careful not to turn myself into a walking show-and-tell presentation.”

SEW BE IT

“Sometimes I'll find a pair of vintage jeans that I have to have, but they're too short. So I'll just ruche them myself and wear them with boots, of course.”

CROP SHOP

“I found this on the clearance rack at Dillard's, and I liked its vintage-look. My husband says it looks like it was made from his grandmother's couch. If only that were true!”

PRIZE POSSESSION

“This necklace is very special to me: The Tibetan amulet was a gift from my mother-in-law. I laminated and antiqued this photo of my father so I could always have him with me, and the bull charm was a gift from fellow Craft Mafia member Katherine Brown.”

TO BOOT

“I love boots, but my collection didn't expand — I probably have about 22 pairs — until I moved here three years ago from Florida. It was never cold enough there to wear them.”
