Clooney's got feelings for Obama

First there was “Obama Girl” crooning “I Got a Crush ..... on Obama” and now the Democratic presidential candidate has another fangirl: George Clooney. “You've been in a room once in a while with a rock star. He walks into the world, and he takes your breath away. I'd love him to be president, quite honestly,” the actor told reporters at a film festival.

The 210 take: Barack Obama must be the hottest presidential candidate since Chester A. Arthur's muttonchops set corsets aflame in 1881.

Craig looking for love in all the wrong places

Idaho Sen. Larry Craig resigned over a men's room sex sting. It was the end of a stunning week in which Craig fell from senior senator to Republican Party outcast amid reports that he had solicited sex in an airport restroom. Craig, who supported measures to ban same-sex marriage, was a leading voice in the Senate on gun issues and Western lands.

The 210 take: Anyone who lingers in an airport men's room should be arrested for just plain old bad judgment.

Why isn’t there a toll% for stupid ideas?

The Texas Department of Transportation is pushing Congress to pass a federal law allowing the state to “buy back” parts of existing interstate highways and turn them into toll roads. The report also suggests tax breaks for private company investment in such enterprises and for altering the tax code to exempt toll road owners from paying income taxes.

The 210 take: TxDOT's next move is to try to toll area sidewalks, parking lots and the chair you are currently sitting in.

Bexar sheriff resigns, avoids jail time

With an indictment hanging over his head, Bexar County Sheriff Ralph Lopez resigned in a deal struck with prosecutors that guarantees him no jail time in exchange for a no contest plea and $10,000 fine. Lopez pleaded no contest to misdemeanor charges stemming from an investigation into a jail commissary contract.

The 210 take: Ironically, Lopez made the plea to avoid going to jail and facing those outrageous commissary markups.

Former Helotes terror ‘Mulchie' is all wet

Wet weather has slowed the cleanup of the woody debris pile that burned for three months near Helotes. “Mulchie” became the talk of the town — spawning front-page headlines and even a MySpace presence — before finally being extinguished at a cost of $5.5 million.

The 210 take: As if that wasn't an ignominious enough end for Mulchie, I cut him from my friends list.
