The first Texadelphia opened near the UT-Austin campus in 1985. The chain has a location in San Antonio and now in Norman, Okla. — home of the OU Sooners. Is that really a good idea?

For many UT grads, fond memories of Austin include slacking off on the campus' South Lawn, slacking off at the shores of Town Lake and slacking off at favorite hangout Texadelphia.
And now here in San Antonio, you can get your slack on. The San Antonio incarnation of Texadelphia is more polished than its campus counterparts, but the big draws remain the same: cheesesteak sandwiches, great queso and plenty of beer.

WHAT: Texadelphia

WHERE: 13111 San Pedro Ave., Suite 101. (It's on the southbound access road of U.S. 281, just south of Bitters Road); (210) 490-9595

HOURS: 11 a.m.-10 p.m. Sunday-Thursday; 11 a.m.-11 p.m. Friday and Saturday

TASTE SENSATION: Texadelphia's sandwiches are great, but what keeps me coming back is the queso. It's among the best in the city, and the serving size is just right for two people to split as an appetizer.

TUMS-WORTHY: Eating a cup of melted cheese each time I stop at Texadelphia may be slowly clogging my arteries and killing me but, man, what a way to go.

THE 210 TAKE: With five TVs and plenty of Longhorn paraphernalia, Texadelphia is a great place to watch the game. And what goes with a game but beer? Specials include $5 pitchers of Shiner on Friday evenings and $2 bottles of beer several nights each week. If you're looking for food, the Texican cheesesteak pairs jalapeños and queso on top of the classic cheesesteak, and the Pizza Steak, Hickory and Left Coast cheesesteaks put their own twists on Philly's sandwich. Lighter fare includes a smoked turkey and guacamole salad and a veggie sandwich.
