Reason No. 37 not to go to your reunion

Roberta Mahan and August Offer rekindled some very old sparks when they met up for a Brackenridge High School reunion. The two 89-year-olds were married last week after hitting it off at their 70-year reunion.

The 210 take: This reminds me of the Brittney Spears-Justin Timberlake romance. I just hope there's no 89-year-old Kevin Federline to spoil this happy story. And if there is, he better not release a rap album.

Guy you didn't know was running quits race

Former Wisconsin Gov. Tommy Thompson is dropping out of the race for the Republican presidential nomination. Thompson had said before last week's Iowa straw poll that he would drop out of the race unless he finished first or second. He finished sixth in the event.

The 210 take: The name Tommy Thompson just doesn't sound presidential. “Today at a news conference, President Tommy Thompson had this to say about the status of the war on terror: ‘Geepers!'.”

‘Bush's Brain' moves on down the road

He's been called “Bush's Brain” and “The Architect” — and now he's calling it quits. Karl Rove, the guiding force of President Bush's political career, will resign by month's end. Rove was the most influential political strategist of modern time, getting credit for Bush's rise to power and the blame for his loss of support. Bush himself had two nicknames for Rove — “Boy Genius” and “Turd Blossom.”

The 210 take: This begs the question, “Was the powerful Turd Blossom squeezed out?”

Officials seeing red over Redneck Games

Officials in East Texas are considering pressing charges against the promoter of the rowdy outdoor party known as the Texas Redneck Games. Calling it a bloated bacchanal of disorder, drunkenness and debauchery, officials say they might file charges under a state crowd-control law. During the event, nearly 100 people either were arrested or cited for speeding, underage possession of alcohol, DWI and marijuana possession.

The 210 take: Wow, this could give rednecks a bad reputation.

Griffin heads to big game show in the sky

Merv Griffin, a big band singer who struck it rich twice as a nice-guy talk show host and as the creator of “Jeopardy!” and “Wheel of Fortune,” died of prostate cancer at age 82. Griffin parlayed his success in television — he produced the two most popular syndicated game shows in television history — into a $1.6 billion empire.
The 210 take: Alex, I'll take “Rich men who should have left me money” for $100, please.
