What did you think of this week's podcast and mix-CD? Man! Y'all don't know doodly squat about Def Leppard
1) Bringin' is on High 'N' Dry not On Through The Night 2) It's a semi on the cover of OTTN, not a train 3) Rick Allen lost his arm after Pyromania. Hysteria was the comeback as the one-armed drummer.
You need to get schooled. Leave Clint alone. This week's discussion reminds me of the letters section from an old issue of Maximum Rock 'n' Roll where bands would be accused of selling out for signing with an indie label run by a kid out of his mom's basement and moving five copies of a vinyl single. Jeez.
Green Day and Blink-182 are good bands. I might question song choice -- if catchiness is your criteria, and why not, go with the hits, not obscurities ... "Longview" and "What's My Age Again?"
Both bands are arguably in the tradition of the Buzzcocks, punks from the very beginning, who were basically complaining about growing up. And, for instance, L.A. bands like Black Flag and Suicidal Tendencies who, musically, sure weren't pansy asses, but aren't TV Party and Institutionalized just about their best songs. And exactly what positive social change were the Sex Pistols working for?
5 punk songs
Janie Jones, the Clash Pretty Vacant, the Sex Pistols What Do I Get?, the Buzzcocks Sonic Reducer, the Dead Boys Beat on the Brat, the Ramones
