When robots attack, they go to Iraq

The U.S. is preparing to deploy “hunter-killer” drones to Iraq and Afghanistan sometime between this fall and next spring. The remote-controlled drones, aviation history's first robot attack squadron, are the size of jet fighters, powered by turboprop engines, able to fly at 300 mph and outfitted with infrared, laser and radar targeting — and a ton and a half of guided bombs and missiles each.

The 210 take: Robot attack squadrons? A little Transformers action is just what this war needs.

Kids, eat your veggies, not your supplements

State officials are warning high school athletes that some over-the-counter supplements found in nutrition and grocery stores could trigger a “false positive” on the state's new steroid test. A study several years ago found that nearly one in five dietary supplements sold in U.S. stores was contaminated with chemicals causing a “positive doping test.”

The 210 take: The WWE seized on the news, blaming “dietary supplement rage” in the Chris Benoit case.

Tiger attack injures San Antonio zookeeper

A zookeeper who was mauled by a tiger at the San Antonio Zoo was in stable condition after the attack. Witnesses to the attack said the tiger emerged from its den when the zookeeper was in the yard, suddenly swiping at his neck and dragging him. The attack prompted officials to close the zoo for the rest of the day.

The 210 take: No joke here. I make it a policy to anger neither tigers nor the zookeepers who know how to open their cages.

Tornado touches down on Northeast Side

A tornado and a severe thunderstorm, both with winds from 80 to 100 mph, ripped through parts of a Northeast Side neighborhood, leaving downed fences and uprooted trees in their wake. It was the first tornado spotted in Bexar County since 2004.

The 210 take: Let's see, we've been deluged with 40 days of rain, swamped with waves of crickets and now a tornado. Write your own punch line, because I'm headed to the nearest church.
