Was the diaper thing just a load of crap?

The attorney for Lisa Nowak, the former astronaut accused of trying to kidnap a romantic rival, scolded the media last week. He said that Nowak was not wearing an adult diaper as she drove from Houston to Orlando. Diapers were in the car, but they were used years earlier when Nowak and her children had to evacuate before a hurricane, he said.

The 210 take: You know things are bad when your defense team focuses on the diaper accusations rather than, oh say, the attempted kidnapping and assault charges.

San Antonio forecast: Rain, rain, more rain

Round after round of showers and thunderstorms hit South and Central Texas, bringing more than a week of wet weather. The Hill Country town of Marble Falls was drenched with 19 inches of rain in only a few hours — leaving 150 homes and businesses damaged and three bridges washed out.

The 210 take: The rain is so bad that local theaters moved “Evan Almighty” to the documentary categories.

Gay Pride Parade gets a grand marshal in uniform

Police Chief William McManus served as the grand marshal of the Gay Pride SA Festival and Parade. McManus is hoping to improve SAPD's strained relationship with the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender community. Gay activists say that since McManus became police chief in April 2006, he has made it a point to foster better understanding of and communication with the sizable minority group.

The 210 take: McManus loves the spotlight, rainbow-colored or no.

Holy cow — milk prices skim $4 a gallon

A shortage in the global milk supply is paving the way for the all-time highs in the dairy aisle. For some stores in San Antonio, $4 for a gallon of milk has become a reality, and nationally, a gallon of whole milk averaged $3.26. The increase is blamed on everything from bad weather in Australia to increased demand for milk in China to feed corn being diverted to ethanol production.

The 210 take: This is why I get my daily dairy allowance from milk-esque product Yoo-Hoo.

What have you heard about wiretaps?

The Senate Judiciary Committee issued subpoenas to the White House, Vice President Dick Cheney's office and the Justice Department after what the panel's chairman called “stonewalling of the worst kind” of efforts to investigate the National Security Agency's policy of wiretapping without warrants.

The 210 take: The White House was unsurprised at the turn events, saying: “We knew you were going to do that! Seriously, we heard you talking about it.”
