Don't feel bad if you've never heard of the 1960s-play-turned-1970s-television-movie “It's a Bird ..... It's a Plane ..... It's Superman.”
According to John Poole, few have. “We saw a scene from it, and it was startling,” Poole said. “It's was really, really bad in a way that everyone will enjoy.” So Poole, the owner of the new Overtime Theater, is showing the film on Saturday, July 7, as part of the venue's “Superhero Cheese” showcase. During the screening, Poole is planning a number of participatory events, including a breakdown of the “Top 10 List of the World's Worst Things Besides the Superman Musical.” After all, the movie in itself likely wouldn't be worth the price of admission. “It's a superhero movie that is really, really cheesy bad,” said Poole, who somewhat models the event after the cult-favorite “Mystery Science Theater 3000” TV series. “But it's bad in a funny way.” Poole, who opened the Overtime Theater in April, said the venue is primarily going to showcase original plays written by local writers. However, because of the film's awesome badness, Poole and his staff are making an exception. Even ones with weak musical adaptations. CLINT HALE | 210SA |
