Alamo Pizza may be a small local pizza chain but the dish selections are abundant. Once you taste a pizza from this restaurant, you'll get hooked. One of our favorites is the mozzarella sticks. Although this appetizer is offered at many places nowadays, Alamo Pizza, as they do with all of their food, “kicks it up a notch,” as Emeril would say. Alamo Pizza's motto is “Taste the Difference,” and that difference is noticeable with each bite of their made-from-scratch goodies. WHAT: Alamo Pizza, alamopizza.net
WHERE: 3938 Zarzamora (210) 932-2500; 1702 W. Gramercy Place (210) 734-2400 HOURS: 10:30 a.m.-9 p.m. Monday-Thursday; 10:30 a.m.-10 p.m. Friday; 11 a.m.-10 p.m. Saturday; noon-9 p.m. Sunday TASTE SENSATION: Alamo Pizza offers selections aside from their signature pizzas. Popular choices include calzones, hot wings, fried pickles and mushrooms and a number of salads. A must-try at Alamo Pizza is the Chicken Enchilada Pizza; it's simply amazing. You completely forget you're eating a pizza once you take a bite. Pizza sauce is substituted with enchilada sauce and topped with pico de gallo. It's like a fiesta in your mouth. TUMS-WORTHY: There are some pizza lovers who love a grease-soaked pie. If you're a greasy-pizza lover, then Alamo Pizza is the place for you. If not, stock up on a few napkins to dab the top of your slice. Aside from that, the food is great. THE 210 TAKE: Alamo Pizza is a typical pizza joint with an edge. The service is stellar, both locations are always spotless and, of course, the food is in a realm of its own. And most important of all, the prices are reasonable. A one-topping large pizza is $9.99 while a large specialty pizza like the Texas Best Pizza with toppings including pepperoni, Italian sausage, Canadian bacon, jalapeños, black olives, and more will set you back $14.25. And don't forget to try the wraps, strombolis and hot subs. |
