During Jennifer Azzi's 13-season career as a professional basketball player, the point guard stayed busy breaking WNBA records for three-point field goal percentage and free-throw percentage, winning a gold medal at the 1996 Olympics and appearing in Reebok commercials.
“I think hearing it from me, there's instant credibility,” Azzi said about teaching kids the importance of regular physical activity. “They know that I've done it, and I do it. I do it every day. They see me and know that I walk the walk. It makes them listen to me.” San Antonio is the third stop on the national mobile expo, which brings a basketball court and several tents where kids can shoot hoops, participate in a fitness clinic, record a rap song, sample healthy snacks and win prizes. Some Silver Stars are scheduled to make an appearance. Azzi said both boys and girls enjoy the Be Tour. “They love it. They have fun, they learn,” she said. “It gives them a chance to meet not only myself, but other WNBA players and to see us as normal and be able to dream about achieving things, be in sports or whatever.” Jessica Belasco | 210SA Contributor |
