LINKIN PARK: ‘SHADOW OF THE DAY'
It's not yet a radio single from Linkin Park's latest release, Minutes to Midnight, but it more than likely soon will be. On the surface, “Shadow of the Day” sounds like the antithesis of Linkin Park. For starters, it's subtle, much more so than screaming Linkin Park tracks like “Somewhere I Belong” and “One Step Closer.” And secondly, it sounds just like a U2 song. In this particular case, Linkin Park's departure in sound is not such a bad thing.
ELLIOTT YAMIN: ‘WAIT FOR YOU'
First, he got those teeth of his fixed, and now, the former “American Idol” contestant is storming the radio charts. Coincidence? We think not.
ENRIQUE IGLESIAS: ‘DO YOU KNOW? (THE PING PONG SONG)'
Judging from its sullen lyrics, and by his recent split from longtime flame Anna Kournikova, this song basically announces Enrique's rearrival on the singles scene. Ladies, start your engines.
BOBBY VALENTINO FEATURING TIMBALAND: ‘ANONYMOUS'
This song is fitting, considering it seems that Timbaland could take just about anyone off the street these days and turn them into a superstar.
THE USED: ‘THE BIRD AND THE WORM’
The Used are back and better than ever on this track, the first single from their latest album, Lies for the Liars.
30 SECONDS TO MARS: ‘FROM YESTERDAY’
Hey, Jared Leto and crew have a song besides “The Kill.”
FABOLOUS FEATURING NE-YO: ‘MAKE ME BETTER’
Timbaland produced it, and that contribution alone makes this song better.
THE VAULT
ARTIST: Limp Bizkit
ALBUM: Significant Other
RELEASE DATE: June 22, 1999
THE 210 TAKE: Scoff if you will, but this album sold more than 600,000 copies its first week in stores, so some of you out there — who are no doubt ashamed eight years later — used to limp with the bizkit. And why not? After all, before they become a national punch line, Fred Durst and Co. did deliver some catchy tracks, most notably “Nookie,” “Break Stuff” and “Re-Arranged.” Sure, they (thankfully) faded into obscurity a few years later, but wasn't it fun while it lasted?
