I have yet to regain feeling in my pancreas after having watched — no, experienced — the season finale of “Lost.”
The ending was so shocking and cool, I was rendered motionless and speechless. Which means no one heard as I fell off the treadmill I was watching the show from.
If I had known the makers of “Lost” were going to pick this season's finale to totally turn the series around and turn the level of intensity to 11, I would've taken precautions.
What can I say? It's been a hell of TV season.
Through it all, one constant remains: If the set is not plugged in, you won't be watching jack.
Speaking of jack, “24” remained the constant veteran. But while it continued to deliver on action and suspense, the shinny edge has worn off, and this season's story was lacking and not very well done.
You may be thinking, “Wow, this guy seems to know what he's talking about.” And you would be correct. However, I'm also the guy who thought “Day Break” was the best new show this year. Yeah, that one lasted about three episodes.
Hey, at least I was smart enough to stay away from the “The Black Donnellys.” Yet I would be remiss if I did not share my top shows that aired this season.
- 'At No. 5 is the venerable comedy that never fails to leave me choking with laughter, “The Office.” Now it could just be my massive man crush on Steve Carell, but I can honestly say no other show this year was funnier. Not even “South Park.” From the very beginning, when Michael outs Oscar, to the pepper spray incident, or the obscene watermark recall, this show blew funny all over us.
- 'No. 4 sees HBO's “Rome” shouting defiance as it went under with a series finale that left smiles on the faces of the shows diehard fan base. Even though the last episodes seemed rushed, the story tied up well.
- 'No. 3 is the surprise of the season for me. It is a show we will go into much more detail about next week, but as it stands, “Man vs. Wild” is the craziest, most entertaining unscripted show you will ever get hooked on.
- 'No. 2 would be “Lost.” I know many people have bemoaned the seemingly directionless path the show has taken. However, the second half of this season really lit a fire under the mythos of the show. And the season finale, oh man, it tore into us. I was not expecting the death that happened or the twist surrounding the flashback.
- 'Finally at No. 1 , “Heroes.” And this is not because I'm such a comic book whore. Well, maybe it is. This series never really let up. From the debut to the finale, “Heroes” delivered the goods. This was the consistently best-written show all year.
