NBA FINALS, June 7, ABC: If the Spurs are there, Game 1 of the NBA Finals will take place at the AT&T Center. Their opponent: Detroit or Cleveland. Another low-key San Antonio-Detroit NBA Finals probably isn't what ABC — or anyone outside of San Antonio or Detroit — wants. ‘HOSTEL: PART II,' June 8, theaters nationwide: If the overall mediocrity of “Spider-Man 3” wasn't enough to scare audiences away from movie theaters, this film might do the trick, either with its over-the-top gore or porous acting. TEXAS FOLKLIFE FESTIVAL, June 8-10, Institute of Texan Cultures: Live music, arts, crafts, food vendors, booze, culture and summer outdoors in Texas — really, what's not to love? Except for that whole summer outdoors in Texas thing. RED BULL FLUGTAG DEADLINE, June 15: This event, scheduled for Aug. 25 at Auditorium Shores in Austin, allows people to create and fly homemade flying machines off of a 22-foot high ramp and, more than likely, into the waters below. Flugtag, after all, is German for “flying day.” The final day to enter is June 15, and entries can be submitted at redbullflugtagusa.com. ‘FANTASTIC FOUR: RISE OF THE SILVER SURFER,' June 15, theaters nationwide: Led by Jessica Alba, the jock from “Not Another Teen Movie” and that guy from “The Shield,” the Fantastic Four are the superheroes you want to call when trouble breaks out, assuming Spider-Man, Batman, Superman and Wonder Woman are all on vacation. FALL OUT BOY, June 20, Verizon Wireless Amphitheater: Luckily, this concert is scheduled during the summer. That way, the band can rock out all night and not be worried that the majority of their audience has to be at school by 8:15 the next morning. WWE SMACKDOWN, June 26, AT&T Center: Some of wrestling's top superstars invade San Antonio for a television taping to be broadcast three days later on the CW Network. So don't bother bringing lewd or offensive signs written on poster board. You'll probably be asked to leave, have your sign edited off the network broadcast or both. INDEPENDENCE DAY, July 4: This Independence Day falls on Wednesday, so get over the hump with plenty of barbecue, beer and many other good old-fashioned American traditions. In keeping with American tradition, many will stay up late, and then call in sick to work the following morning. |
