Wednesday   | May 23

‘LOST'
Lowdown: The season finale is a two-hour event. During that time, expect exactly zero plotlines to be wrapped up, further alienating the show's already dwindling fan base. And who says today's television producers are out of touch with what viewers want?
When: 8 p.m.
Where: ABC
Info: abc.com/lost

Thursday   | May 24

KERRVILLE FOLK FESTIVAL
Lowdown: The 18-day Kerrville Folk Festival kicks off. Thousands gather to squint at performers on a big stage across the field while sweating in the sun and buying cheap patchouli-scented memorabilia. It must be the beer discount for bringing your own cup that keeps people coming back year after year. Or it could be the talented musicians.
When: Varies. Most days have a full schedule.
Where: Quiet Valley Ranch, Texas 16 just south of Kerrville
How much: $25-$35; special rates available
Info: kerrvillefolk festival.com

MISSIONS BASEBALL
Lowdown: This game against Springfield marks the last Missions home game until June. It also marks dollar night, which means  hot dogs, sodas and beer are all $1. You full gut might not let you stand up during the seventh inning stretch.
When: 7:05 p.m.
Where: Wolff Stadium, 5757 Highway 90 West
How much: $6-$9
Info: samissions.com

BOB DYLAN BIRTHDAY BASH
Lowdown: Bob Dylan (pictured) turns 66 today. And while we doubt he'll be wearing a party hat — or even be in San Antonio — local bands True Stories, Eric Hisaw, Michael Martin and Friends, The Krayolas, Los #3 Dinners and Marcus Rubio will offer up their take on “Mr. Tambourine Man.” Hopefully, they'll skip over Dylan's born-again Christian material from the '80s, not because of its religious undertones but because it flat-out sucked.
When: 8 p.m.
Where: Casbeers, 1719 Blanco Road
Info: casbeers.com

Friday  | May 25

‘PIRATES OF THE CARRIBBEAN: AT WORLD'S END'
Lowdown: All the stars are back, but does anyone care after “Pirates 2” was so disappointing? Spider-Man does, considering the third film in that franchise just eclipsed the second “Pirates” film for biggest opening weekend ever. Now, Johnny Depp and crew are out to take the record back, and, of course, entertain the masses as well.
When: As soon as your local theater opens
Where: See movie listings
Info: disney.go.com/ disneypictures/pirates/

‘HOLLYWOOD AND TIME'

Where: Blue Star
Arts Complex,
1414 S. Alamo
How much: $12 general admission; $9 students and seniors

MORRISSEY
Lowdown: The duke of doom and gloom is still touring. Find your wardrobe from 1991 and prepare to get depressed. It must be an Austin thing.

Where: The Backyard, 13101 Highway 71 West
How much: $39-$41
Info: thebackyard.net

Saturday  | May 26

TRACY LAWRENCE
Lowdown: Lawrence used to be one of the biggest country stars around, but after some personal issues derailed his once-booming career, he faded from the mainstream. Now, he's on the comeback trail, and where better to start than Texas?
When: Doors open at 5 p.m.
Where: Cowboys Dancehall,
3030 NE Loop 410 at I-35
How much: $12-$20
Info: cowboysdancehall.com

DEADSTAR ASSEMBLY

 2926 N. St. Mary's
How much: $10

NOT THE GOVERNMENT
Lowdown: It's a sendoff of sorts for San Antonio band Not the Government, which is heading for Los Angeles in search of a record deal. Though the band will inevitably rock San Antonio at some point in the future, that time might not come for awhile.
When: 9 p.m.
Where: Limelight, 2718 N. St. Mary's
How much: $5
Info: notthegovernment.com

UFC 71

DRUMMIN' FOR A CAUSE
Lowdown: Feel the rhythm, and no, it's not your heart jumping from all the caffeine. The Ruta Maya Drum Circle hosts “Drummin' for a Cause,” and donations go to SaveDarfur.org. Kind of beats a pithy saying on the side of your $4 cup of Joe, doesn't it?
When: 7 p.m.
Where: Ruta Maya Riverwalk Coffee House, 107 E. Martin
How much: No cover, but donations are welcome
Info: rutamayariverwalk.com

12 GAUGE VALENTINE

How much: $10
Info: sawhiterabbit.com

Monday   | May 28

MEMORIAL DAY
Lowdown: It's the unofficial beginning of summer, so throw some hot dogs on the grill, drink plenty of, umm, water and bake your brains in the already- overpowering San Antonio sun. Think it's hot now? Wait until August.

BAND OF HEATHENS
Lowdown: Many of San Antonio's clubs are shut down for Memorial Day — so head up to Gruene — just like everybody else in the southern half of the state. You won't beat the heat, but you can grab a Lone Star and a seat at Gruene Hall while listening to Band of Heathens' R&B-inspired folk-rock sound.
When: 7:30 p.m.
Where: Gruene Hall,
1281 Gruene Road
 in New Braunfels
How much: Free
Info: gruenehall.com

‘THE SIMPLE LIFE'
Lowdown: Since your brain will already be fried with the heat, this might be the only time you'll ever come close to understanding what on earth Paris Hilton is thinking. The fifth season of this so-called reality show starts. Wonder if next season's will be shot at Alcatraz?
When: 9 p.m.
Where: E! Network
Info: eonline.com

Tuesday   | May 29
