HEADS UP: A look at the next 30 days Print E-mail

‘KNOCKED UP,' June 1, theaters nationwide: A loser (Seth Rogen) impregnates a hot, ambitious career woman (Katherine Heigl), but the two invariably find some common interests and try to make a go of it. It may sound like a sappy romantic comedy, but it's also from the guy who wrote “The 40-Year-Old Virgin,” so it will probably be a sappy romantic comedy with enough crude humor and stoner jokes to satisfy the male fan base as well.

JELLOFEST, June 1-3, Jack's Patio Bar & Grill: Plastic swimming pools full of Jell-O, and some live rock music scattered over the course of three days. Really, what could go wrong?

CHAYANNE, June 2, AT&T Center: Hopefully, unlike fellow Latin heartthrob Ricky Martin, who bailed out on his May 12 Verizon Wireless Amphitheater show with a sprained lower back, Chayanne will actually be able to play before a sure-to-be-packed crowd at AT&T Center. And if he doesn't show, well, expect plenty of disappointed ladies.

TEXAS FOLKLIFE FESTIVAL, June 8-10, Institute of Texan Cultures: A three-day celebration dedicated to food, fun, booze and live music. In other words, it's mini-Fiesta. And that, in no way is a bad thing.

USED CAR NIGHT, June 22, Wolff Stadium: Minor league baseball franchises are notorious for wacky promotional nights, and our beloved Missions are no exception. With that in mind, the organization is giving away used cars to 10 lucky fans during the Missions' game against the Midland RockHounds. And remember, rust isn't a sign of age. It's simply a sign of character.

‘LIVE FREE OR DIE HARD,' June 27, theaters nationwide: Super cop John McClane (Bruce Willis) is back to kick some bad guy ass, so long as he remembers to first take his Geritol.

INDEPENDENCE DAY, July 4: It's a chance to celebrate America, eat apple pie, drink American beer, go to the lake or play horseshoes with friends and family in the backyard. It's also an excuse for many Americans, for one day at least, to be free of all work-related responsibilities. Now that is independence worth celebrating.

VANS WARPED TOUR, July 13, Verizon Wireless Amphitheater: Among the main acts at this live music extravaganza dedicated to all things punk rock and skateboarding are The Used, Yellowcard, Amber Pacific, Bad Religion and The Red Jumpsuit Apparatus. Angst-ridden youth, unite.
