San Antonio, in the past, has showcased its share of music, from ear-rattling hard rock to radio-friendly pop. Then there were those who didn't bother to stop off in the Alamo City. Here are a few examples of each.
HARD ROCK

Stone Sour

The 210 take: Hard rock at Sunset Station? Not so surprisingly, it fared quite well.
NON-HARD ROCK
Young Jeezy
Genre: Rap
Date: April 22, 2007
Venue: Freeman Coliseum
The 210 take: Jeezy brought some famous friends with him for the Street Dreams Tour, including Lil Wayne, Baby and Jim Jones. Major rap tours don't often come through San Antonio, but when they do, they apparently come in bulk.
Taylor Hicks

Venue: Majestic Theatre
The 210 take: Not that many people showed up, and those who did were mostly elderly.
All-American Rejects
Genre: Pop-punk
Date: Nov. 25, 2006
Venue: Freeman Coliseum
The 210 take: Only 2,000 fans showed up to see this band perform with Motion City Soundtrack, the Format and Gym Class Heroes, approximately 8,000 fewer people than Freeman holds.
THE NON-ATTENDEES
Justin Timberlake
Genre: Pop/R&B
Where he went in Texas: Dallas and Houston
The 210 take: Timberlake brought sexy back to a lot of cities on his recent North American tour. San Antonio just wasn't one of them.
Christina Aguilera
Genre: Pop
Where she went in Texas: Dallas and Houston
The 210 take: Aguilera, of Latina descent, avoided a city that features a large Hispanic population. Well, that makes sense.
The Killers
Genre: Alternative rock
Where they went in Texas: Austin and Frisco
The 210 take: San Antonio, apparently, wasn't hip enough. |
