Girl in a Coma was making music for seven years, playing countless gigs across the country and putting in an appearance on SíTV, all without a full-length album.
Enter Joan Jett.

The iconic rocker discovered the San Antonio band and liked its style of melodic rock so much that her Blackheart Records label released Girl in a Coma's first full-length album, “Both Before I'm Gone,” on Tuesday, May 1. The band will celebrate at Sam’s Burger Joint on Saturday, May 5, with a show and screening of their videos “Clumsy Sky” and “Road to Home,” which includes a cameo by Jett.

“She's like a big sister now. If we ever need anything or advice, she's there for us. She knows what it's like to be in an all-girl band,” said Phanie Diaz, 27, the band's drummer. Her 19-year-old sister, Nina Diaz, is the lead singer and guitarist, and Jenn Alva, 27, plays bass.

The band also will be at FYE at Southpark Mall for an in-store performance from 3 to 5 p.m. Sunday, May 6.
