| Band Profile: Blowing Trees branching out from stage |

|
THE SOUND: Alternative rock meets folk rock, with some earthy sounds thrown in for effect. Blowing Trees' influences include Radiohead, the Beatles, the Flaming Lips and Wilco, though the band sometimes sounds like Oasis — back when Oasis was good. THE MEMBERS: Chris Maddin on vocals, keyboards and guitar; Edwin Stephens on lead guitar; Scavone on bass; Drew Pierce on drums. THEIR WORDS: “I have always been told we are a live band. I want to break that wall and have a record that is loved and long lasting. Having said that, with a great record comes great shows, which there is nothing like in this world,” Maddin said. THEIR RECORD: Blowing Trees (2006) WHERE TO SEE THEM: Blowing Trees is playing at Rebar on Thursday, May 3, at the KUIW Internet radio benefit show. The free event runs from 9 p.m. to 2 a.m. and features a number of other bands, including Rhyme Mind Theory and Dance Like Robots. THE WEB: myspace.com/blowingtreesmusic, tegartists.com THE 210 TAKE: If the band can market itself to the proper demographic — primarily college students and 20-somethings who dig folk rock with a modern edge — Blowing Trees soon could find breakthrough success. Look for the band's new, as-yet-untitled album this summer. |
