THEY ARE: Starchild

THE SOUND: The band labels its sound rock 'n' soul, which makes sense, considering Starchild blends rock, blues and funk into one sound.

THE MEMBERS: Henry Gutierrez, vocals and guitar; Gbatokai Dakinah, vocals and bass; Shawn O'Banion, vocals and drums

THEIR WORDS: “A little bit of this, a little bit of that, there's something for everyone. But I like that. The songs aren't all similar.” — Gutierrez

THEIR RECORD: Starchild (2006)

WHERE TO SEE THEM: The band frequents several local bars and clubs, including Revolution Room and Oasis, and plays Rebar every Tuesday night and one weekend a month. Starchild also will play Cinco de Mayo fest at Revolution Room on Saturday, May 5.

THE 210 TAKE: The members of Starchild have, in various other bands and solo efforts, opened for a diverse array of musicians, from Papa Roach to Norah Jones to No Doubt. That musical diversity was not lost on the trio; Starchild mixes a little bit of everything into its sound. Look for the band's new live album, Live at Rebar, early this summer with an as-yet-untitled studio CD to follow shortly thereafter.
