Heads up: A look at the next 30 days Print E-mail

“SPIDER-MAN 3,” May 4, theaters nationwide: If this is the last cinematic go-round for nerd-turned-superhero Peter Parker, here's hoping the final installment in the trilogy is just as good as the previous two. And maybe a trilogy is where most superhero franchises should stop. The evidence? “Batman & Robin” and “Superman IV: The Quest for Peace.”

NEAL McCOY, May 5, Gruene Hall: McCoy, a Texas native and resident, has his own record label — 903 Music. His first single on the label was “Billy's Got His Beer Goggles On.” With a title like that, it probably doesn't surprise you to hear that McCoy is a country musician.

WILCO, Sky Blue Sky, May 15: It will be almost impossible to top 2002's classic Yankee Hotel Foxtrot, but if Wilco can even come close, we'll take it.

DEFTONES, May 18-19, Lonestar Pavilion at Sunset Station: If you attend the May 18 show, and can actually hear the following day, head back out to Sunset Station and inch one step closer to permanent deafness.

TOOL, May 21, AT&T Center: Sure, you never know with a band that has already bailed on two previously scheduled appearances in San Antonio. But even so, we have to admire Tool for even attempting to play for its loyal San Antonio fans. The same can't be said for Rod Stewart and The Who, who both elected against rescheduling their canceled San Antonio dates. But they’re old anyway, so who cares?

“AMERICAN IDOL” FINALE, May 23, FOX: It's time to crown another “American Idol” champion. And who cares if this is probably the least talented group of finalists the show has seen in its six seasons on the air? At least it's almost over.

ROBERT EARL KEEN, May 25, Gruene Hall: The concert is still a month away, but with a Texas country music legend like Keen, it would probably be smart to get your tickets soon. Like now.

“PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN: AT WORLD'S END,” May 25, theaters nationwide: The first — and best — installment in this trilogy wasn't expected to perform as well as it did at the box office. But because it made money, a second-rate, unnecessary sequel was made. Naturally, it cleaned up at the turnstiles as well. Now here comes the third, and hopefully last, in a series of films that were inspired by, of all things, an amusement park ride.
