Miss San Antonio also goes on to compete for the Miss Texas title and has a shot at becoming Miss America. Inaugural Siesta Fest brings back big hair, metal bands The first Siesta Fest kicks off on Wednesday, April 25, and runs through Saturday, April 28. The event features mostly tribute/cover bands, including groups dedicated to GNR, Queensryche, the Red Hot Chili Peppers and one (Poison Cherry) that pays tribute to the entire '80s hair metal scene. Army of Anyone joins long line of supergroups Army of Anyone consists of former Filter singer Richard Patrick, as well as brothers Rob and Dean DeLeo, formerly of Stone Temple Pilots. Rounding out the quartet is drummer Ray Luzier, who played with ex-Van Halen singer David Lee Roth for years before joining Army of Anyone. The band released its self-titled debut album last November and is now touring in support of the album. Say ‘aloha' to different kind of culture festival The 11th Annual Alamo Aloha FiESTaval, which takes place on Saturday, April 21, at Lady Bird Johnson Park, gives attendees the opportunity to experience Hawaiian culture. That includes Hawaiian food, arts and crafts vendors and ethnic dance performances. San Antonio Earth Day celebration The annual San Antonio Earth Day celebration takes place on Saturday, April 21, at Woodlawn Lake. The event began in the late 1970s and has morphed into a celebration of environmental protection and energy and water conservation. |
