Hotties quotient: Since everyone and his their mother goes to The Cove — for the live bands, the diverse menu, the huge variety of bottled beers, the adjoining Laundromat and/or the carwash — you're sure to run into at least one eligible bachelor or bachelorette. Ask them to dance or buy them an ice cream cone.

Wallet hangover: Not too bad. Sometimes there's a $3-$5 cover for the homegrown rock, blues and folk music, but you can always sit outside for free. The drinks are cheap (most beers cost $2.75-$3.50) and so are the burgers, tacos, salads and vegetarian sandwiches (most entrees cost less than $9).

The 210 take: The no-smoking establishment is casual and a good place to take a date or the family. You can find it all at The Cove: a playscape and arcade for the kids, reliably tasty food (check out the fish tacos and the veggie burger) and a seriously laid-back crowd. It's definitely a San Antonio original.
